We know that “it’s” means “it is” and “its” means belonging to it, but why? Why is there no apostrophe in “its”?
It’s because “its” is like “his”, “hers”, “theirs”, “ours” and “yours”.
They’re all possessive already and don’t need an apostrophe to make them possessive.
