The dangling participle

19 Aug / by: Lorraine

One dangling participle I see a LOT is the classic “as an experienced plumber/dry cleaner/car mechanic, you can be assured of my first class service”.

What? I’M the experienced tradesperson? I might as well fix it myself then!

Watch out for switching subjects mid-sentence. It should be “as I am an experienced plumber, you can be assured of my no leaks guarantee.” Or “As I am an experienced plumber, I offer a no leaks guarantee.”
