Why is ‘anywhere’ okay but ‘anyplace’ wrong? And in the US, ‘anytime’ is okay.
Don’t assume that all ‘any’ words can be joined.
‘Anyway’ doesn’t mean the same as ‘any way’. ‘I’m going to do it anyway’ means I’m going to do it in spite of being told not to. ‘I’m going to do it any way’ means I will find any way to do it.
‘I don’t want to do this anymore. I won’t stand for any more of this nonsense.’ The jury is still out on whether ‘anymore’ is just a misspelling of ‘any more’ or whether there is a difference between them. If you mean any longer, anymore is safe. If you mean more of something, keep to two words.
‘The team doesn’t meet on Thursday nights anymore; they couldn’t cope with any more hangovers on Fridays.’
