Lorraine Forrest-Turner

I was employed by Unisys, the global information technology company, to work with one of their logistics managers who suffered with extreme anxiety before major presentations.

John was comfortable talking about logistics when he was looking at spreadsheets, reports and analyses. But put him in a presentation situation and he would forget what he needed to say, go off at tangents and leave his audience puzzled as to what point he was making. Also, anxiety affected his voice (making it high pitched and thin) so even when he stayed on track, his words lacked conviction.

I worked with John over a three month period. I helped him plan his content in a way that he couldn’t forget his key messages and taught him vocal exercises to strengthen and lower his voice. He mastered a trick of singing a song in his head to lower the pitch of his speaking voice, giving it a more credible and authoritative sound.

(While the name of the company is correct, the client’s name has been changed for confidentiality.)
